About POOKODE LAKE

Nestled amidst the mist-covered hills and evergreen forests of Wayanad, Pookode Lake is one of Kerala's most beautiful natural freshwater lakes. Located about 15 km from Kalpetta and 3 km from Vythiri, the lake is a favorite destination for nature lovers, families, photographers, and adventure seekers. Surrounded by the lush greenery of the Western Ghats, Pookode Lake offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Overview

Pookode Lake lies at an altitude of approximately 770 metres (2,500 feet) above sea level and covers an area of around 13 acres (8.5 hectares). The perennial freshwater lake is famous for its unique aerial shape, which resembles the map of India. It is the smallest high-altitude freshwater lake in Kerala and serves as the origin of the Panamaram River, a tributary of the Kabini River.
